  • Overview

    The function of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to act as medical liaison between clinical staff, clients, and physicians and to manage client medications. The Nurse will measure and record clients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration when required. S/he will evaluate medical concerns and direct clients to emergency medical care when required. This individual works as part of a health care team to assess client needs, plan and modify care and implement interventions as required. The position is classified as a Category I in the Exposure Control Plan and involves inherent potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

    Responsibilities

     

    The following are duties, responsibilities and leadership roles that the Registered Nurse shall provide for the organization:

     

    • Demonstrates clinical understanding of both drug and alcohol toxicity, consistently and correctly identifies patients in states of detoxification; consistently and correctly identifies signs of withdrawal, demonstrates skill in detecting drug side effects and/or interactions.
    • Demonstrates ability to implement evidence based treatment modalities consistent with the etiology of substance use disorders.
    • Ability to complete appropriate documents within the required timeframe after admission to the program.
    • Ability to administer medications as indicated and monitor detoxification process.
    • Ability to confer with and assist medical personnel.
    • Ability to make appropriate referrals using referral forms.
    • Ability to provide documentation, which reflects services for each patient in accordance with licensure standards.
    • Ability to meet with patients requesting to see the doctor to determine the urgency of their medical needs and expedite treatment as required.
    • Ability to effectively communicate concerns about patient health to appropriate personnel and follows up as necessary.
    • Ability under the supervision to assist in educating patients about health problems and medical care.
    • Demonstrates ability to facilitate medication education for new patients and for all other patients starting new medications.
    • Demonstrates ability to provide routine nursing care under supervision as indicated.
    • Demonstrates ability to encourage efficient utilization of supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
    • Demonstrates ability to maintain effective communication between outside medical services and the facility.
    • Demonstrates ability to keep and share records and equipment.
    • Demonstrates ability to participate in regular department meetings, staff meetings and committees as requested.
    • Demonstrates ability to interact with patients with compassion and respect.
    • Demonstrates ability to complete all tasks with concern for work quality.

    Qualifications

    Must be licensed and in good standing with the State of Florida.
